How is the CITP®|FIBP® designation recognized in Canada and around the world?

The CITP®|FIBP® designation and FITT’s training have been officially endorsed by the Canadian government, Export Development Canada and the World Trade Centers Association (WTCA).

The CITP®|FIBP® designation is also increasingly listed as an asset or requirement in job listings for a wide range of international positions. Is the CITP®|FIBP® designation for me?

If you work in international business in any capacity, or aspire to do so, the CITP®|FIBP® designation is the right choice for you.

Whether you work in import/export, logistics and supply chain management, marketing, business development, sales, law, finance, or other fields, the CITP®|FIBP® designation is proof you have the competencies needed to compete with global players. It’s also equally valuable for professionals at all career stages, whether you’re still only a year or two into your career or an expert with decades of experience.

What’s common among all CITP®|FIBP® designation holders is that they’re active in international trade in some form, and they recognize the value of professional certification for career advancement, credibility and proof of their skills and knowledge.

How do I become a CITP®|FIBP®?

To qualify for the CITP®|FIBP® designation, you must have successfully completed the FITTskills program, or equivalency thereof, and you must have a minimum one year of full-time professional international business experience.

There are multiple options to meet the requirements to apply for the CITP®|FIBP® designation. Visit the CITP Certification Process page for more information and choose the option that’s right for you based on your level of education and experience in global business.

You’ll also need to agree to the CITP®|FIBP® Standards of Ethical Conduct, commit to ongoing professional development and pay the annual CITP designation dues.

Is there a CITP®|FIBP® exam?

There is no single exam to become a CITP®|FIBP®. For more information on how to apply for and earn the designation, please visit the CITP Certification Process page.

Does my prior education and experience count toward earning my CITP®|FIBP® designation?

Yes! You can use your prior learning experience to earn FITTskills course credits to work towards earning the FITT Diploma in International Trade, one of the requirements towards earning the certification. To do so, submit your portfolio. If you are missing some credits, take part in as many FITTskills courses as you need.

Highly experienced international business professionals with more than 10 years in the field can apply directly for the designation, without having to take any courses or complete any exams.

FITT Seeking ISO Accreditation for CITP Designation

We are excited to announce that FITT will be applying for ISO 17024 Accreditation. Through this accreditation, FITT’s certified program – the CITP designation – is validated by an independent, unbiased accreditation body – the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) through the Standards Council of Canada. Learn more about ISO 17024 and changes in effect September 1, 2021.
